Keep in mind, you have to see the movie "Labyrinth" to truly appreciate this video.
On Saturday, May 7th 48 students traveled to Nashville, TN to record 8 songs at Starstruck Studios, a world class recording studio owned by Reba McEntire. This was our longest recording session to date...running from 8 am to 3 am. The students recorded "Magic Dance" from 7 pm to 9 pm. The song during the credit sequence is a piano arrangement of "As The World Falls Down" by David Bowie.
This recording session was definitely a big production and wouldn't have been possible without the following people:
Dan Willard, who transcribed the song and provided us with the sheet music for the horns and keyboards. His transcription was incredibly accurate and without his efforts we never could have learned the song. If you ever need perfect transcriptions, be sure to check out www.danwillardmusic.com
Clemens Schleiwies, for mixing and mastering the song. Clemens transferred the song to analog tape and then mixed it on his vintage Helios console which is from Hansa, a world famous studio in Berlin. This same console was used to record David Bowie's albums "Heroes" and "Low" and the console is even signed by David Bowie. For top notch mixes and absolute professionalism, definitely check out Clemens' services: www.analogmix.com
Sam Parsons, for learning the bass line to the song entirely by ear and performing it on a 6 string bass.
And to Joe Hubbell, the lead guitarist, who also learned his part by ear.
Brian Anderson, Josh Cole and Morgan Asher...what can I say, these guys worked 24 hours straight and took care of business. They made the trip enjoyable and successful. I can't thank them enough!!!
Kristin Agee for arranging the percussion part and lending us her instruments: www.kristinagee.com
Tom and Nick Inglin for their fantastic photos which were used in the credit sequence of the video.
Todd Tidwell and Aaron Kasdorf, the engineers who kept the session relaxed and productive despite the long hours. The students can't wait to work with them again.
Debbie Hogan and Nathan Shrum, for lending us the hand chimes.
And of course to all the parents for making this trip possible. My students are very lucky to have parents who are so supportive.
Note: I am looking for cameramen, lighting crew, photographers and video editors to help out on future projects. The amount of work to create these videos is daunting, so any help would greatly appreciated. Please contact me if you are interested in getting involved (we do have money in our budget for these services). Our future sessions will most likely occur in Cincinnati, OH and Nashville, TN.
