This is the first time I have ever seen or heard of the tap. But to answer your question I can imagine that the horse already sees you as the boss and sees no reason to resist any further. The horse then begins to look up to you as the heard leader and feels safe around you.

Paul you are still having too much fun, can we all come and get in on it?

Same with me, I've ridden bareback for so long, I often drop the stirrups when I'm riding someone else's horse w/ a saddle.
People always go, "Why aren't you using your stirrups??? Aren't you afraid you'll fall off???"
Haha, I'd rather fall OFF than be stuck ON in an emergency. And besides my ballance and "feeling" of the horse is better. I have back problems and it also relieves that somewhat.

What? You sayin he's speeding the footage up? And here I just thought he was getting the job done really FAST...lol
I really appreciate how kind yet persistent you are with these horses. I was never able to be around horses but I am fascinated by what you do and how you do it. What I am always wondering when I watch you 'tap' or take the horse to the ground is that after the horse is down, you don't seem to be concerned about his feet. While I am watching you I keep wondering why the horse doesn't try to kick you or even move his legs when you reach over and give his lower leg a rub.

The TAP isn't seen as aggression thru the horses eyes so there is no threat to counter. No one horse has ever tried to kick when executing the TAP.

Do you find it easier to sit without saddle/stirrups? I rode bareback a fair bit of my life but now am saddle bound. Sometimes I think I should go back to it with a pad to clear me off the spine.

Yep, I stick better with no stirrups.

Great work, as always! What's with the sped-up video though??
Cool, I see you do your lateral head flexes the same way I do before riding a horse! It's a great warm up for rein cues. Can't do THAT on a curb bit, arrg I hate those things.
