Because sled dogs don't live good comfortable lives like most pet dogs, they're considered beasts of burden and worked to the point of utter exhaustion and sometimes death.

They’re also usually put down once they get old or injured and are no longer useful to the sled owner.

It’s a completely unnecessary practice considering there are modern and powerful snow machines that do the same job much more efficiently and reliably.
