@FridaLaReina What constitutes an acceptable degree in your utilitarian, exclamation-filled world?
Intellectual study for its own sake. Challenging yourself, absorbing yourself in our culture and - to use a gross term - developing 'transferrable skills'. All things to be celebrated and all things that have served Chantal well.

Doherty sounds like someone from a compensation advert.

@englishgainer It would have been so much ironic, had he been in Jesus College...

'Pick a number between 1 and 5'
'Pick a number that's not 4'
Real smooth Hayes.

Yeah, true!
There was a question on the Christmas special, where both answers differed by only ONE letter substitution in the name, UCL's answer?
"Pope and J.G. Ballard"
Well, I didn't know the second answer (And can't remember) but I understood the question well enough to laugh! :D

@stuartidh I have known people who were gifted and they could read huge books very quicky and recall huge amounts of info from the book. Normal people do not recall very well if they take in large volumes of information.

As opposed to an uneducated guess.. which would be wrong !! :)

Never mind the Honour of the university.. stuff that !!
What I think they should do every now and then is do a University Challenge whereby the winners of the whole challenge have their student debts cleared.
I don't doubt that we're watching a bunch of very intelligent individuals, but they all seem to hold an unrealistic amount of general and specialist knowledge. Not just on this episode, but every UC. Pretty sure they must be given a list of stuff to research prior to the episode.

@stuartidh If only. It's astonishing how much Wikipedia-derived knowledge pops into your head when you're on the spot vs Paxman - along with a lot of educated guesses. The most satisfying moments were when an apparently useless nugget of information from an old GCSE syllabus suddenly turned out to have value.
