A highlight of the 2006 Amazing Grace competition at the Red River Workshop in Shreveport, LA. When you play Amazing Grace on the bagpipes, certain parts of the tune can be played with the left/high hand only. During that time, you see how many beers you can chug. Here, Jack Lee does a great job. However, at the start of his second stanza, the set of pipes he borrowed from Virginia Smith fail when the blowpipe shoots out of the stock!
The use plain BEER for a Amazing Grace Competition? Usually u do that with whiskey! Good job, though!

Jack is a great guy, by the way. If you ever get the chance to see him, do. He comes out here to Maui every year and does a bagpipe workshop for our band. It's really a big help. He's a great teacher.

I agree. Scotland the Brave, Amazing Grace, etc. all get played by every band at every performance. It's what people want to hear. It's like going to a Don McClean concert. It doesn't matter what he plays, nobody wants to hear anything except "American Pie".
Regardless, everytime I march to "Scotland..." my pulse quickens. And everytime the band plays "Amazing Grace" I enjoy it.
And yes, I'm a piper too.

its a cliche tune - i love it and will play it anytime someone asks, but it is overplayed, just like all the other cliche tunes like scotland the brave and barren rocks etc. all great tunes but they get overplayed...
