well the fact that they had a crude starter (that is only engaged momentarily) and crude electronics does not answer the question about the physical, non-electric engine noise that I imagine could be heard from 2 blocks away. My question still remains....is this the way these cars sounded when new?
inkey2,because the cars then had crued-ish starters, electrics, etc. They also had No soundproofing between the engine and the cabin apart from the runningboards. Also, your just used to driving something like a BMW M5 with half a ton of sound proofing, gadgets here and wiring there and quiet this over there.
I live in massachusetts where the winters can be brutally cold.....how the hell did they ever get these things started on a 20 degree day with 6 volt (?) systems, straight weight oil etc. It must have been awful
god I hope the 24 dodge I am getting has a gas pedal, and not all those weird pedals. I am 15, and this will be my first car. OH NO! It is going to be so hard to drive.

question: is that the way these old cars sounded "new" loud and clankey? or is it just because it is old?
