Mid April in the UK. On sunny days male Red Mason Solitary Bees are searching stacked plant stalks for newly hatching females. The eggs were laid in the hollow stalks last year, the grubs were supplied with food and the young bees overwintered in their homes sealed with soil based 'masonry'.
