okay who the heack made okami in spore?!

The jabber chat voice in okami gives the charters expression while still alowing the use use of text the game developers wanted to use text as the act of reading text conects the player to the story in a diffrent manor then spoken dialog would I think it works very well it also allows the player to put the voice they feel fits with each charter there imagnation creates in some part the charters persona.

Excellent game. I dislike the combat system but the visuals and theme are unique and immersive.

The voices are indeed annoying, but it's such a small price to pay for such an amazing game :P You get used to them after a while anyway

The noises are fine. I couldn't imagine this game with voice acting. Same goes for things like Banjo Kazooie and Zelda.
