By far the best anti DUI commercial I've ever seen. It's Australian, and I really wish the US wouldn't ban commercials like this. It's a very moving, and heart felt commercial, and anyone who's lost someone because of DUI can relate to this. Please don't drink and drive. Alcohol=FAIL

Drinking in itself is not a bad thing do, especially in moderation, but driving over the limit is a serious danger to yourself and others.

So if I'm driving sober, and I have my drunk friend in the back sleeping, and we get into a fatal wreck, that automatically gets marked down as "alcohol related" even though alcohol may have had nothing to do with what caused the wreck. Furthermore, I asked my Paramedic friend if the DWI accidents he works on, if the person had 1 or 2 beers, or like 10 beers, and he said that most DWI wrecks he deals with the driver is well over .05 or .08 so this BAC lowering won't save any lives.

You must of read some bullshit propaganda. 31% of fatal accidents are alcohol related. The way they record "alcohol related" is pure propaganda. Any pedestrian, cyclist, or passenger in a car that has a measurable amount of alcohol, or unopened alcohol container in the car, in a fatal wreck, that gets marked down as "alcohol related". Its recorded that way to make you think that there are much more drunk drivers on the road then there really is. And there is a double standard in the system.

No, stigma it not attached to alcohol, it is attached to DUI and to alcoholism, but not alcohol itself. And the stigma makes sense.

This minor group of driers is responsible for a considerable portion of car accidents, car injuries and car fatalities, far disproportionate to their number. Discourage such behaviour and a considerably traffic safety issue is removed... and then move to another... perhaps texting while driving.

shit happens, thats all I can say. I got bit in the face by a Doberman Pinscher once. Do you think it would be fair for me to classify all Doberman Pinschers as vicious dogs that need euthanized because one dog of that breed bit me in the face? I'm sure I would catch all shit from the people who love those dogs, but there is no stigma attached to vicious dogs like there is alcohol. You use your friends loss of life, as an excuse to ruin the lives of thousands of people who victimized no one.

You should look up Defiance theory. Defiance theory is when you make a punishment too harsh, more people commit the offense out of defiance of the law. I think your ideas for DWI's would fall into that realm. Look at crack-cocaine laws. 5 grams = 5 years. Did it make it so people stopped smoking crack? No, it filled up prisons though, and made generations of African American's 2nd class citizens under the legal system, and allowed violent offenders to serve shorter sentences.

SOber drivers fuck up too. Be sure to point that out in your class. You're six times worse at driving when texting and driving, than if you've had 2-3 drinks prior to driving, in other words, you're a safer driver with a beer in your hand than with a cell phone in your hand. But theres no stigma attached to cell phones like there is alcohol. Cell Phones don't cause societies ills like alcohol does, so we don't dick over cell phone users the same. Its a complete fucking double standard in the law

If a woman in Ohio can kill a man and receive only 45 days in jail, and I victimize no one and am facing a year in jail, you don't make me feel shame, you cause me to feel that I'm a victim of shitty laws. prohibition has a long and bloody history in this country, and I see you're on the side of the neo-prohibitionists. They've proven that texting and driving is six times worse than drinking and driving. If my brother can total a car texting and driving, I feel no shame or guilt for what I did.

Well how come making laws forever harsher has not eliminated DWI? I see you're a fan of deterrence theory, make the punishments so draconian, no one will break them. As a criminal justice major receiving his degree and knows a lot more about human psychology than you, I can assure you there are plenty of criticisms of deterrence theory. The DWI I got in April of 2012, I got pulled over for a minor traffic violation. Shouldn't reckless driving be the underlying factor for automatic arrest?

If you can't afford a taxi home from bar, you can't afford to drink. Drink at home or at a friend's house then stay there.
