This is the retreat and announcements of scores from the 1992 Drum Corps International World Championships at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison, Wisconsin. Interesting things that happened:

Phantom Regiment drops down 2 spots from 6th to 8th, and the fans are absolutely shocked. Phantom Regiment director David St. Angel reacts to it with a gesture (in the middle of the screen, wearing a white jacket and hat, around the 3:12 mark).

Crossmen are announced in 6th, their highest finish ever at that point. Their staff jumps up and down and hugs each other behind the corps' block.

Star of Indiana drops from 2nd to 3rd, to the delight of the crowd, which never really warmed to Star. Cadets are announced 2nd, which the crowd loves as well, only because they know that the Cavaliers have won their first ever championship.

Curt Gowdy is probably drunk throughout this whole thing.

  • wow this video is awesome! you dont by any chance have 1993's retreat do you? i wanna hear how that crowd sounds when star is announced 2nd.

  • I think I do have it on vhs... i'd have to transfer it. someday maybe I will, but not too soon lol

  • hmm, I thought Star won?

  • They won their only championship in 1991.

  • hm, but they did the encore for cadets afterwards in 93?

  • For Cadets, because Cadets won in 1993. This was back when each corps played themselves off the retreat field at Finals, one at a time, in reverse order of finish.

  • I really wish PBS would broadcast the finals again.

  • you wouldn't think that if you saw the shows that scored above them. don't get me wrong, I liked it, but they finished in the place they deserved. watch the crossmen show from that year. it will blow you away.

  • fans back then, damn. LMAO

  • WOW a stadium majorly filled with classless fans.... but then again seemed to be what we endured for the last 3 years of our existence.

What a joke and BTW Worm3469 you are a POS>

  • @Iccarus72 He was.. And so was Phantom Regiment..

  • Once again, a 4th place hornline wins Nats... Gotta love it... And yes, Curt Gowdy is as useless as the brass number...

  • Being on the field during retreat and hearing star come in 3rd place was sweet. I didn't like their 92 show at all. Even with their great visual staff they still got beat by Cavies and Devils in visual. HAHA Suck it star!

  • @impreza5150 Dave Saint Angel (Phantom Director) was supposedly fined for giving the " bird" up to the box. But don't you just love it..CLASSIC!!!

  • @lolz989 They had a bad night that night. They peaked about a week earlier. I know because I marched cadets and they beat us in Minnesota just a couple of shows before finals week. On finals night they had a bad saber drop in front of most of the corps and it seemed like it threw off the entire show.

  • @madscout96 DO IT!!!

  • hey thogy - why would anyone have expected STAR members to be gracious winners? would you be gracious after being booed every night? your comment: "i was not sad to see them go" - what a aweful comment to make!

we were young kids just like them members of the other groups. you should be ashamed.
