Cinnamon Rolls Recipe Made From Scratch Great for Breakfast

Ingredients:
•2 packages yeast
•1/4 cup 110 degree water
•1 teaspoon sugar
•1/2 cup shortening
•1/3 cup sugar
•1 teaspoon salt
•1 cup evaporated milk
•1 egg
•4 cups sifted flour
•1/2 cup melted butter split
•1 - 1/2 cups brown sugar
•1 tablespoon cinnamon

Vanilla Frosting:
•2 cups powdered sugar
•2 tablespoons butter, melted
•1 teaspoon vanilla
•2 tablespoons evaporated milk

Preparation:
Add the warm water to the yeast and soak 10 minutes.

Scald milk; pour over the shortening. Add sugar and salt and cool to tepid. Add the dissolved yeast and beaten egg. Add 4 cups flour adding one at a time beating after each addition.

Knead on floured board until elastic and smooth.

Turn dough into coated bowl. Let rise for 1-1/2 hours.

Mix brown sugar and cinnamon.

Press dough down and divide into workable size. Roll dough out into a rectangle. Cover with melted butter. Layer with a generous thick layer* of brown sugar and cinnamon mix . Roll up like jellyrolls

Cut off slices about 1 inches thick.

Let rise until rolls fill the pan generously...about another hour.

Bake in a 350 degree F oven about 20 minutes.

For the Frosting:
In a medium bowl, place sugar, butter and vanilla. Then stir in evaporated milk.

Spread over warm rolls as soon as they are placed on a plate to let the frosting melt and run into the rolls.

  • Wow! They look beautiful and delicious! I plan to make these Super Bowl Sunday!

  • @NYCNorthNJ777

Definitely set some time aside to make these they require a lot of effort, but are sooooo good! I wish you success!

  • I made these today and they are awesome! I used I Can't Believe It's Not Butter for shortening and I didn't have evaporated milk so I substituted for 150% of that quantity warm regular milk and it worked just fine.

  • @PJtheFey

Super glad it worked for you!

  • hi again i didn't have good luck in cinnamon rolls i will try again and i hope this time comes out like ours :) have another question is sifted flour the same as all purpose flour and can i use all purpose flour thanks for commenting back :)

  • @TheMermelade

    Hi,

The process of sifting involves filtering the flour through fine metal mesh (google sifters and look at the images). It doesn't have to do anything with the kind of bread. All purpose flour is fine. Make sure when you dissolve the yeast it's at 110 degrees in a warm room for 10 min. otherwise it won't rise. That's the most common mistake.

After the salt is added it's the mixture of water yeast and sugar that appears in the beginning. Good luck! BTW click the "show more" link for the recipes.

  • @fatii2590 I used butter, came out perfect :) <3

  • @divinechef Hehe! The first time I made it, it was not good I have to admit. I didn't let the dough rise enough and I just poured in the yeast without it rising either (fail lol). But after my third try, it came out perfect!!! Thank you dear for this recipe! Its super yummy (I always credit you :)! ) xoxo
