@elamantebilingue She was terrific but I believe Szabo did 4 backhandsprings rather than one backhandspring and three layout stepouts.

@elamantebilingue she didn't do a handspring to 3 layouts.... she did 4 back handsprings. The first to do that series in the olympics was Dominique dawes in Barcelona.

where was the deduction? :/
-
Nope-never going to happen. Can't you tell by all the threads here and all over the internet? People discuss sports controversies for DECADES. You should just deal with it-and move on yourself.

ITA. And after watching Mostepanova's routines at Olomouc '84-Mary Who?

Ecaterina Szabo should have won the AA. She made a huge mistake in the optionals on UB but OVERALL was superior in the AA. Resplendent and engaging on FX, solid on UB, spectacular on HV, astounding on BB (backhandspring to 3 layouts, 2 tumbling series with refined form!)
Compulsories, technical finesse and artistry are the things that people conveniently forget when they wave their american flags, listen intently Cathy Rigby and proclaim that Mary Lou Retton deserved the AA gold medal.

Szabo did have some other issues in 1984--her compulsory beam was way overscored, she wasn't deducted for lack of height and distance on vault, so a case can be made for Mary Lou. However, if judged according to my PERSONAL code of points, Szabo still wins.
