This is a remake of Final Fantasy VII's One Winged Angel. This must have been the 6th time I remade this song, but this time I'm absolutely confident that it's close to 100% perfected. Why? Because I dissected the original song from the playstation down to the channel layout, sample frequency setup, etc with ePSXe and a plugin's debugger.

This song was designed to play on the DS with MIKMOD based players, which means sample-based vibrato bugs were exploited to play properly. If you play this in a player that's not MikMod based (not Winamp, for example) then the music may not play properly. (The sample vibrato depth may be too deep, for example)

  • Heh I remember having a .it of an old version of this song. If I remember correctly it didn't have the actual vocal samples and needed to record them. I ended up fiddling with ff7 PC's soundfonts to get some and tried importing them into the .it once. Not sure if it was yours or someone else's.

  • @KilloZapit It may have been mine, though my first version used recorded lyrics (albeit, they were badly recorded)

I put out a version that didn't have lyrics as well so that may also be mine or not, I'm not sure. You'll have to check out my mod archive and see.

  • I thought DS and PS1 are similiar in that thy both use ADPCM channel synthesis only PS1 has 8 more channel from 24 and DS has 16 from what I read up .

  • @SPS148669 They are similar, but the PSX had 512k of sample memory (compressed of course), and the DS doesn't have a limit on sample memory.. the problem is, a song like Mako Reactor wouldn't work on the DS unless you cut out a couple channels because it uses all 16 channels, and that map has sound effects constantly playing.

  • FF7 on the DS would be a great thing... but I really hope they remake FF6 in 3d first (like IV)

  • FF7 DS WOULD be pretty great, but in my opinion, it was the weakest of the PS FFs.

  • @stabslice How so? Unfortunately, 7 is the only one I've ever beaten in the main series of the Final Fantasy games.

  • @SgtThom

indeed, waiting for the 3ds would be a better idea, and you could take advantage of the 3ds 3d screen.

  • OMG FFVII for DS? FF5 is ok but that "game"?!

I hope that will never happen(DS is too cool for FF7)

  • Can you tell me how do you extract the sequence from ePSXe?

  • @SgtThom And then, with all of that extra hardware to play with, porting FF7 would be stupid easy.

  • i never played FF7,but watched the movie...

if it was remastered and released on the DS,it would be awesome

Sound channels wouldn't be a problem if you can cut down on sound channel usage. I dislike how the composer will often waste sound channels on drums and not use them for long durations. It will be kinda like SNES games where instruments would be cut for the incoming ones like Plok which only used around 5 sound channels. The only main problem with songs would be ram usages. It HAVE to be shared with the game and uncompressed samples can take up lots of space.

  • The only problem will be lots of uncompressed per-rendered back grounds(Hell those things where already compressed enough and spans over 3 disks). They can use an expensive 256Mb carts while compressing everything even more or simply just port/remake it over to the 3DS since cart space is over 2GB.

  • if ff7 can be mad eon the PSP, so can the DS. nuff said

  • @tssf it was, I checked the comments in the file :P
