The International Powered Access Federation (IPAF) has released a video that shows the dangers of not wearing a full body harness on a boom type access platform. It features a live demonstration in which a crash dummy fitted to a specially modified Skyjack boom shows the effects of driving over a low-lying obstacle. For safety reasons, the crash dummy is suspended at the top of the basket. The dummy is not wearing a harness, in order to show the consequences of the catapult and jolting effects when the boom goes over an obstacle. The video can also be viewed and downloaded at the Publications/Film section of http://www.ipaf.org.

Hang on a second.. Duhhhh the dummy wasn't holding on. If you white knuckle the cage you don't need no stinkin harness lolll.

You should take a few negros out of jail and put them in there for punishment. No top on the cage though. Wait.. I never seen a boom lift take off like a Z06 corvette why was it so fast?

would have been nice if they showed the difference with a harness on.. O wait. there is no difference. What a stupid demonstration

IPAF. Nothing but racketeering. You aren't expected to resit your driving licence every three years despite cars evolving considerably faster than cherry pickers have, and a cherry picker typically has a maximum upper speed of 5 miles an hour versus no upper limit for cars. But with IPAFs scam you have to resit your "test" (a dull Powerpoint presentation) and pay them a wad of cash every three years or you don't get onto sites to work. Ditto PASMA. and CSCS. Just plain racketeering.

What a piss poor demonstration. Harness would not have made a bit of difference in that situation.

Yes.. A harnas and you would be all OK in that situation...

Wearing a harness on one of these would stop you from falling off yes, but it clearly wouldn't stop you getting thrown about like a rag doll....why would you even be going that fast anyway while in the air?
