Looks like 'Old Ireland' is still very much alive and well. Sadly.

I think most of your assessment is correct (I think religion is neither here nor there.) I do think that if PR were to be removed in favour of 'first past the post', then a lot of problems might have been headed off. Sadly we'll never know. Certainly political instability would not have been an issue. FF used PR to their own advantages for decades. To the point where government departments are now nothing more than extensions of FF.

@TheChapaqua Good question. My answer would be yes I'm afraid. What you have in Ireland is Tribal Politics & a Tribal Mindset. It is however easy to goven the Irish people as they have proved to be meek & ignorant throughout all that has happened with FF. Enda Kenny & co don't make the cut either. The problem is the mind-set of the Irish people. Not enough courage for individual thought & consienence due to Catholism & Tribal loyalty

@breda83 Is it possible that Ireland may be ungovernable? Just a thought.

@breda83 I don't think the same thing applies to FG to the same degree. Enda Kenny doesn't inspire confidence. Certainly FF have had it. I don't think they themselves understand the culture of corruption, concealment, spin, and cronyism which goes back to the late 60s. Remember Haughey's remarks about Ahearne? For Ahearne read Cowan, McCreevy, Brennan, O 'Roarke, etc. Until these figures are removed from the party, do you even begin cleanse FF. Remember when Ray Burke went to jail?

@TheChapaqua The problem sadly is in the Irish mindset and until that changes you will get the same shite over & over again.

@breda83 The funny thing is, anyone in FF looking at the above clip would think,'well, what's the problem?'

@TheChapaqua It should because they will be in power sometime in the future.
