Mike and Deana Ruel embark on an adventure to explore one of the world's largest sea caves, Painted Cave. This sea cave is located approximately 3 nautical miles East of West Point, Santa Cruz Island. Painted Cave is over 130 feet tall at its primary aperture and extends 1228 feet into and under the island. the cave is painted with the many colors of geologic sediments layed down over millions of years. It is inhabited by sea birds, sea lions and many forms of marine life. The cave ceiling drops to only 4 feet above the cobblestone beach in the deepest interior reach. To visit the cavern in the back be sure to bring headlamps or a powerful waterproof light, it is pitch black in the back. What an incredible natural resource to visit in our aquatic playground the Channel Islands.
