Here's another one:
"In Skagit County is a forest of Douglas pine and white cedar in which there are many trees reaching 325 feet high, and some of them are fully 350 feet high."
-- Forest Leaves - Page 162 by Pennsylvania Forestry Association, 1922.
-
"Many trees, each over 280 feet tall, have been measured about Blaine, Washington. Others in that vicinity and elsewhere reach to a height of 350 feet. There are without doubt large numbers of trees in Washington over 300 feet high."
-- American Forestry Association, 1890.
Hmm... You would have liked to see those Puget sound trees a hundred years ago.

why do you cut the tops off why dont you just fall the tree??
-
some of those sections seem pretty short were you able to sell any millable lumber out of something like that? I think money when I see that tree not firewood, good job though I tried it once cause I thought it looked easy but when the tree started swaying after I toped it I almost messed myself!!

There's a highway just to the right of the camera, about 80 yards downhill from the tree. So I took what I thought would stay on the hill. Most of the wood was just anyways, I think the butt log went for firewood in fact.

OK...not bad.But why not make it easier on yourself & limb the thing out on the way up ?

It was easier to leave the limbs on. They were all on one side for the most part so they pulled the sections over. Also I used them for getting up and rappelling down. I also thought it might keep the sections from bouncing too much when they hit the ground.

Well you got 1 log out of it anyway.

Yup...but at least we didn't wreck the highway or cause any traffic accidents....:)
