@sharontherun I am so sorry to hear about the passing of Mr. James Phelps. I knew that he had sung with the Soul Stirrers and only discovered a few months ago that I had him singing with them. I hadn't heard of The Clefs Of Calvary until that same interview I read. I found this post and became an instant fan. He will truly be missed.

The legendary, James Phelps, Sr. died Tuesday, 10/26/10 in Inglewood, California. James was the former leader of the Soul Stirrers after Sam Cook and the founder of the Clefs of Calvary. A man with a golden voice . . . he will be sorely missed by his family, friends and fans. R.I.P. James.

I read an interview that Phelps gave and he said that he sung with the Soul Stirrers on the SAR recording of Lead Me To Calvary. Jimmy Outler sung lead, Sam Cooke is singing the 1st tenor, and Phelps is the 2nd tenor. He also said that he led the song on the B side, Mother Don't Worry About Me. I happen to have that 45. I always thought it was Outler on the lead but Phelps said that he is leading and now I can hear the difference. He even put in a nice Sam Cooke yodel. I'll try to post it soon.

Thank you Mr. Paul Foster Jr. For your comment. Your father was one of my and my late beautiful mother favorite singers.
