Japan Cell, a manufacturer of precision optical components, use their proprietary technique of Optical Contact also known as Direct Fusion Bonding, to bond glass without the need for adhesives.
"The main feature of this technique is that you can bond materials together for use in situations where you don't want to use glue. So, for example, when you are using organic solvents or when you are applying heat to a material, you can't use glue."
This technique allows them to create products such as the Polarizing Beam Splitter, consisting of two prisms bonded together for use in IR applications, an Ultra High Vacuum Cell used in cutting-edge fields such as quantum optics research and the Flow Cell for use in Particle or Blood Cell Counters.
Japan Cell also produce a range of "Fly's Eye" Lens Arrays used in Semiconductor manufacturing and as a part of the exposure system in flat panel displays and digital projectors.
