This is Takayuki Mikami, who has taught in New Orleans for many years, and was one of the original group of JKA instructors who came the US. He and Kanazawa fought in the finals of the first JKA Nationals tournament in the 1950's.
Anyone with a direct line to Funakoshi practices these things on a regular basis in the dojo and then in great deapth later if they do Instrutor training.
ex. We train under Leslie Safar, he did JKA Instructor training with Nakayama in early 60's, Nakayama was Funakoshi's student
acerwk, you will find the techniques you are asking about in Funakoshi's first book "Karate Jitsu", when karate was introduced to Japan, Kano's intent was to make karate part of Judo with Judo matches including punching and kicking, in order to be their own art in Japan, Okinawan masters had to say karate only included punches and kicks and not throws chokes pins and joint locks, making it diff than the arts that were currently already practiced in Japan.
This is a tradition Shotokan karate kata. This is a root of the art that I train in. The founder of this art was Gichin Funakoshi. If you don't believe this is part of Shotokan LOOK IT UP! Good video, by the way
Nakahara does not train Shotokan karate -- more proof you do not know what you are talking about. He is the president of the organization JKA but that's it. Just because something is not written down does not mean it does not exist -- Go train and spend less time being critical of things you know nothing about.
So its your words against the words of Nakahara Nobuyuki the president of JKA 9th Dan i believe, states that Shotokan doesnt have this kind of drills..
That is NOT the JKA material in its entirety -- I know -- I've trained many years in JKA karate as well as MT, BJJ and Judo. Many of the the things that I learned in JKA karate were very similar to the things I learned in those other styles. JKA karate has worked in MMA in Kickboxing and on the street -- there is empirical evidence to support my argument plus many years of my own experiences -- this trumps what you read or watch on the internet. Train more and spend less time on the internet.
beautiful kata, but a little fast. He should take his time and breathe
