  • I have thought this out and an even easier way is to just cut the screen out completely on one side using a utility knife. The bees instincually cluster at the top (long as they are kept cooler - out of the sun) and they will stay in the shipping cage in the time it takes you to dump them. YES, it is the LEAST stressful means to introduce packaged bees into a hive box. TY.

  • The most important thing about neighbors is dispelling and educating them on the truth of honeybees - too many movies have portrayed them negatively. I've had several neighbors move into that house over the 48 years I lived there, everyone of them I demonstrated hive inspection and within minutes had they getting their picture taken holding frames bare-handed. Explain and answer all questions truefully and fill in the voids of unanswered questions - it makes all the difference & good neighbors.

  • I have bees in Driveway ties which are hollowed out from age.. They are small bees but dont know if they are honey bees. I live in SNJ also and if they are honey bees, how do I find someone to take them.

  • sure sounds like American Bumblebee or the carpenter bee, both fat, black and brown, they bore fence posts, etc for nest building. They also pollinate and are people friendly, they love to hover and watch us :) I'm in SNJ too so, I'm pretty sure, likely the Carpenter bee.

  • Thanks to all for the feedback lately!!! I'll try answering questions, please just read for your reply.

I'm a boiler plant operator for the US Navy, I make steam used to launch REAL jets from our "Land-based" air-craft carrier platform, Navy Lakehurst, NJ builds, retrofits, maintains all carrier launch and arresting gear. Trust me, it is a high pressure (no pun) job, many lives at stake if I mess up. Oh and beekeepers get stung plenty by their bees, it comes with the hobby :)

  • Dallas and Austin are a father and son who supplied me with the shipping cage with 3-4lbs of Italian bees and marked queen, the are from Central Florida.

  • 凄く繊細な作業で素晴らしいです(*^^*)。

You're pretty good for your SmartWork

  • @KiaRawwrr1 Other bees eat the sugar candy

  • if you have frames with just wires and no foundation will they build honey combs?

  • How does the Queen bee get out?

  • I've been waiting for about a week for the confirmation email. I registered under Kingfisherfd2

Hoping you could help get my registration at beemaster com finished.

  • @ mechanicbull, I installed four new just like john did with only wax foundations, and can proudly say, week 2 and more than half in all have drawn out comb.

  • @ mullet ... depending on where you live yes, there can be restrictions. NYC just lifted their ban this year against bee keepers... yaaaaaaaa for NYC!

  • Thanxs John, I tried this particular method and it worked out great!!!! No stings!!! Happy bee keeping my friend.

  • Are there any rules n regulations on owning beehives about where you can live? neighboorhood concerns?

  • Thank for the information, but what if you don't have cone on the frames, but only bee's wax foundations and you put the bees in it, will they stay?
