The practical session following a 1 day training course run by Illuminate Consult. The first sequences are real time videos, the later parts are all high speed capture at 300 frames per second. The course is highly recommended for anyone considering firing displays or going into professional fireworks. Thanks to Steve, Chris and Wayne for organising the event.

  • Actually these were Cat4 fireworks and safety gear is mandatory. Even when I'm firing Cat3, "Looking like an idiot" is preferable to suffering flash burns and potentially losing one's eyes.

  • I just wear basic PPE and not overalls when lighting Cat3

  • I wouldn't wear all that gear with Cat2 and Cat3;some people wear full overalls/hardhat with built in visor and eardefenders and gloves with domestic cat2 and cat3 fireworks and it's OTT for a private garden display firstly it makes you look like an idiot, and secondly overalls can hinder the firer. I would rather wear just a 3-in-one hard hat and gloves when doing domestic cat2/cat3 displays and I do.
