Gun Battle in Indian Kashmir

Security forces and militants face-off in one district in Indian Kashmir. A militant and a security official were injured in the shoot-out.

A fierce gun-battle broken out between security forces and militants on Wednesday in the Pulwama district of India's Jammu and Kashmir state.

Local media reported a militant and a security official were injured in the encounter.

Police closed off certain areas, suspecting that the injured militant is hiding out close-by.

Kashmir is divided between India and Pakistan, both of which claim the region in full.

India accuses Pakistan of inciting trouble in its half of Kashmir.

However, Pakistan says it only lends moral support to what it calls the local people's armed independence struggle, a conflict which broke out in 1989 and has killed more than 47,000 people.
