spiral sketch

This drawing of Summer Glau playing volleyball was done using a sketching method I call spiral sketching. Basically you use spirals to define the 3D shape of a figure so you can see the curves for the body better. This helps you fit clothes and accessories that wrap around a person in a 3D space. Often when you draw without reference you dress the figure like a paper doll and forget you're drawing a 3D person. This sketching method can help you avoid that pitfall.
