I cannot help but love this country and the people I have served with more every time I hear this speech. I am struck by the fact that a self educated man wrote and spoke these words 146 years ago, and yet current politicians who claim every accolade of the ivy league seem to have no concept of the honor and sacrifice required to keep this nation free.

@1rendezvous Why did you even put the video to your'e favorites?

This is probably the best interpreted version I've heard of the address. Others make it sound like Lincoln was 98 years old or something.
I love the last picture of the old men in their confederate and union soldier uniforms shaking hands.

Why have I not heard this before?

Johnny Cash = Abe Lincoln with a guitar

@MrStephen0625 You may very well be right.

No one here even knows what the terms "Liberal", and "Libertarian" even mean or else you'd know that PatrioticEagle50 is right. Classic Liberalism means minimizing government intervention, free markets, and protection of rights and liberties. Quit getting your facts from FOX news and actually look this shit up.

@1rendezvous L0L Still raging and raving bro? L0L You need to take a booze and stop complaining, life is too short!
i don't care to win people to "my point of view"! I don't think much about u or any one just the people I admire! I'v already figured you out & I'm sure if Lincoln or Cash were around today they'd serve u with c&d papers! So I don't stress you out, I'll delete ur video from my favorites! Just know: If Lincoln or Cash were around today they'd be progressives/liberals! Sorry to disappoint you! And your video is only good because of those two-they stand alone-but you need them!

@1rendezvous You know what little brother, you don't have to delete this from your favorites. Keep watching it. Listen to Lincolns words. Consider the context of 1863. The country tearing itself apart. The ground there was literally soaked in blood. Think about what he says, and maybe someday you will get it. But take my friendly advice: don't be so angry & defensive. Take a breath, calm down, learn to enjoy life. Think about trying to communicate with those who disagree with you.

My U.S. History teacher played this in class, and I was the only one to recognize that it was Johnny cash :P

@Weeman718 Did he play this youtube clip or just Johnny Cash reciting it? In my day, they used to do US History up to the Civil War, skip it...then resume with the modern era... You really didn't get the good history classes until you went to college. Glad to see things have changed for the better.

Everything is POLITICS! From the time u r conceived to the time u die & then some! From the air u breathe to the food u eat to the waste u make. From the very thought you have to what you are able to make & destroy! Even where you live, work! It's all POLITICS! ur life is 'controlled' by others & thr decisions however they r influenced will affect u! Deal w/ it! How dumb can U B! GOOD JOB on video; Lincoln proves my point; he'd be on liberals side if he were around today!

@1rendezvous Brother, you need to take a breath and relax. If you allow yourself to become so politicized, you'll find that no one can stand to be around you. Also, when posting, read your text for the tone. Too many caps & exclamaiton points reads like you're shouting. If you truely wish to win people to you point of view, use calm, fact base points, rather than emotion and name calling. Find the "off switch" for your inner "Nietzsche." Learn to take things at face value, and enjoy life.
