On Saturday, November 13, 2010 the first-ever Maricopa County dual-purpose library and nature center was unveiled to the public. The 29,000 square-foot building and outdoor amphitheater is seeking LEED Gold certification and twenty-seven percent of the building's electricity is generated by solar energy.
At the celebration, visitors were treated to mini-nature hikes, story time programs, a puppet show, hiking preparedness tips and much more. Young guests participated in several hands-on activities to acquaint themselves with the plants and animals of the Sonoran desert.
The library and nature center is located at the entrance to Maricopa County's White Tank Mountain Regional Park, 20304 W. White Tank Mountain Rd., Waddell, at the western end of Olive Ave. We invite you to stop by and enjoy the majestic views and green friendly features found throughout the facility!
This is awesome, I wish every library had a nature center.
