At D'Arcy in St. Louis I had the privilege of working on the very first Bud Bowl. I was an art director teamed with Grant Pace as writer, and we conceived the entire Bud Bowl with Dave Henke and Bill Oakley. Grant and I tackled the third and fourth quarters. It was fun and collaborative, with football ideas flying all about. I distinctly remember coming up with the tear-away label gag. Broadcast Arts in NY did the stop animation. There were several endings created, but I'm not certain which one actually aired. This ending was my favorite. If there had been no plan for a Bud Bowl 2 through 12, Grant fought hard for "The Heidi Ending."

  • We had a Heidi ending written, but AB wouldn't buy it.

  • "Call the commissioner, call the police!"

    Costas, I love you.

  • Aurelio Voltaire Hernández worked on this too right?

  • 0:19 Here they aired those Bud Bowl ads all season long on NFL Sunday Night on ESPN, not just during the Super Bowl. This part always cracked me up as a kid. Good times.
