My friend and I have worked on a project for school (science). We tried to make a hovercraft out of some very easy aquirable materials. In this movie you see the result, guided by the song 'Moondance' from the band 'Nightwish'. FAQ below.

For every viewer who's leaving stupid comments like:

Q: What engine? What fan? How many?
A: Only a self-made fan on the back (carved from a block of wood), powered by a lawnmower engine. A leaf blower serves to blow air underneath. NO fan on the bottom.

Q: It is not floating! It is sliding!
A: You're wrong. It is floating on a thin air layer (Like 1 mm or so). That's what ALL hovercrafts do, you idiot!

Q: Please tell me how you did this/what you used:
A: Sorry. Don't know. It was disassembled after use and the materials were returned to its proper owners. Just "generic" stuff. You don't need special engines or leaf blowers, no special fans. Just a little bit of power, and then anything's fine I think. Use common sense.

Q: You dumbass! It's on a cord!
A: Yeah, so what? It's still a hovercraft. It just gets its electricity from the power net, instead of direct fuel. Budget reasons. It's NOT controlled by remote either.

Q: Does it work on water?
A: Well, if it's very still water and the person on it is very, very balanced: Theoretically yes. But nobody is perfect so it would probably topple and you'd get electrocuted.

Q: I'm going to make one too!
A: Well, i wish you good luck! Don't use this one as an example though, there are a lot of better examples on the internet. Even on youtube.

  • if theres no fans on bottom then it isnt a "hover craft" its a "slide craft" correct?

  • @shinzscape

There is a leaf blower, that blows air under the skirt. That's not a fan.

It IS a hovercraft though. It doesn't touch the ground (except for the cord) XD

  • GREAT work! however a small dingy electric motor battery would be perfect for that you could find them at a marina store fairly cheap and they are light weight and fairly powerful. they don't take long to charge

  • The Persians have been selling flying carpets for centuries. They're much quieter and more elegant - and don't run out of power.

  • cool

Hehe actually, in my country, it's 220 or 230 V, so it's even better =P

Wikipedia: A hovercraft (air-cushion vehicle, ACV) is a craft capable of traveling over surfaces while supported by a cushion of slow moving, high-pressure air which is ejected against the surface below and contained within a "skirt."

    This is a hovercraft.
