Many people probably already know this, but Sunsoft once owned the rights to the 'Terminator' movie license and this game was originally intended to make use of the license. It's made apparent by certain enemy types (namely the final boss) and pieces of music that Sunsoft had been making progress with the original 'Terminator' concept. Sometime during development, though, they lost the rights and had to re-edit the game into what we have now. When you look at the abysmal NES Terminator game we DID get, one can't help but wonder what could've been had Sunsoft been able to retain the license.

But no matter...Journey to Silius is a very engaging and challenging run and gun game, and features some of the best music I've heard on the NES. You start off with a simple hand gun (which has unlimited ammo) and gradually build an arsenal of more powerful guns the further you progress in the game. Since your other guns are limited in ammunition, it's best to save them for the boss battles. You find occasional health and ammo pickups upon killing enemies and you'll be needing LOTS of both. Thankfully, Stage 4 was generous with health pickups. The final stage is unforgiving. There are no enemies, but as soon as you start, the screen will begin scrolling to the right and you have to keep up with it, all the while making your way over and through all the obstacles and pits to the end. This stage also requires precise timing in a few areas or you're dead. Make it as perfect as you can because there are no health pickups here and you have two final bosses to fight at the end. Good luck! ;)

  • You can tell that this is a Sunsoft made game by just listening to the music. Sunsoft games have a very unique and distinctive sound. Not sure if a lot of times they use the same composer, or just have use synthesizers for the sounds that are different from the standard NES game.

Either way, they're usually very catchy tunes. Usually very bassy with lots of percussion like sounds, is what I think when it comes to Sunsoft game music.

  • Sunsoft, Capcom & Konami games provided gamers some of the greatest VG music of the 8-bit era.

  • I always loved the music from this game. I feel old because I kinda remember playing it at my grandma's house not too long after it came out :P

My brother's band Descendants of Erdrick played selections from this game a couple of times. Just type "erdrick silius" to find the video (the reverendhammer version for multiple camera angles).

  • This game is hard as a mother. And I love it.

  • I beat this game for the first time yesterday :) man this game is hard, but it doesn't look that hard on youtube. Well played! I get frustrated at the mini boss in stage 3. That mini boss is annoying, and so is the droids from the chopper in stage 1. This is game that you have to know when and where the enemy appears in advance.

  • That was a weak ending! no story after all the fighting. but good music.

  • the bgm totally kick ass!

  • Love the music at 4:42

  • the famicom title was titled "Raf World"

I still have the copy in pristine condition

  • @pathosis You are absolutely correct. Batman was made by sunsoft. They both sound the same. Hey you remember megablaster? Cant find the rom! :D

  • Why the terrorist look like terminators
