what was the female infant buried alive relating to? why did god mention that? were there arabs burying infants alive?

Yes, in pre-Islamic times, it was a custom to bury one's daughters. The Prophet (pbuh) ended that practice.

the point of these harsh punishments are to keep people away from committing the crime. In societies where Sharia is implemented, the crime rate DROPS. Why would you steal? Why would you cheat on a spouse and ruin the lives of all your family members? why would you murder?

but i think he was referring to the beheadings in Iraq.. that does not go under the category of fighting a battle..that goes under the category of treating prisoners of war.. and the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) treated the POWs with mercy and respect..

Hadith - A Man at the time of the prophet who reverted to Islam, began crying and admitted to burying his daughter alive (before he became a Muslim). The Prophet(pbuh) began to cry aswell and said, "If God ever gave me permission to punish people for the sins they did before comming to Islam, I would start with you.".

not pre-Islamic times...It was in the dark age before islam in this region..Arabians had declined from right way..and they had brought some sculptures to worship them as God.and it was really deviant way hat against of Abraham's monotheism.They were believing that female babies belongs these sculpture gods..and it was a kind of blush to have a female baby for their scary beliefs..coz of that they were burying innocent babies.and it has ended up with Islam..

only certain arab tribes in the peninsuila did it. from what i heard The reason was war and "manliness" was very important in their cultures and they saw women as something that just got in the way or weakened the tribe if they had too many of them.
