  • Irish samurai.

  • @tokyocityrat we try our best :)

  • Excellent video and editted well.

I just have one question, why is your kirigaeshi swing so small. My sensei has taught us to always have big swing otherwise there is no meaning. Kendo was born from real katana where a swing must be big to cut. Please elaborate.

  • Thank you for the kind comments. Your sensei is correct, your swing must be big and straight.

Mostly kirikaeshi is slow to execute correct technique other times (maybe for a higher level when you have a solid grounding in basics) it can become smaller and faster and this is only to practice speed, stamina and correct breathing, this should only be done complimentary to solid slow and large kirikaeshi and only when you have a good understanding of basic kihon.

  • That said, in the video we are after about 6 hours of kendo and we were doing a few hundred kirikaeshi (after 1000's of cuts) and we were all extremely tired. This exercise was not about learning or performing kirikaeshi correctly, it was about building up mental perserverance and fortitude. In our minds we were doing correct kihon.

However despite all I've said above, we do still have many areas to improve within our kirikaeshi and our kihon.

    Thanks again for the comments.

  • ya dont give up :)

All of us started in Ireland, as fara s I know not many had been to Japan first, but many have since been.

Ireland did really well, but we received no silverware :)
