Probably the most famous song from this classic. Inspired by the balcony scene in Romeo and Juliet.

And Chico was played by a Philippine actor, and Bernardo was played by a Greek actor. Indio's girlfriend was played by a Puerto Rican actress. It was the way it was done back in the early 60's.

One of the greatest movie musicals ever made won multiple Oscars for songwriting-Stephen Sondheim, supporting actor-George Chakiris, and supporting actress-Rita Moreno. The voice for Tony was dubbed by singer Jim Bryant and for Natalie Wood was singer Marni Nixon. They both did an incredible and masterful job of singing in this great musical. And look at the results for it won the best film Oscar of 1960.

They casted her because they needed a popular woman to be the lead, and it just so happened to be her.
