Paul Simon - Slip Slidin' Away

Lyrics:

Slip slidin' away
Slip slidin' away
You know the nearer your destination
The more you're slip slidin' away

I know a man
He came from my home town
He wore his passion for his woman
Like a thorny crown
He said Dolores
I live in fear
My love for you's so overpowering
I'm afraid that I will disappear

Slip slidin' away
Slip slidin' away
You know the nearer your destination
The more you're slip slidin' away

I know a woman
Became a wife
These are the very words she uses
To describe her life
She said a good day
Ain't got no rain
She said a bad day's when I lie in bed
And think of things that might have been

Slip slidin' away
Slip slidin' away
You know the nearer your destination
The more you're slip slidin' away

And I know a fa-ther
Who had a son
He longed to tell him all the reasons
For the things he'd done
He came a long way
Just to explain
He kissed his boy as he lay sleeping
Then he turned around and headed home again

Slip slidin' away
Slip slidin' away
You know the nearer your destination
The more you're slip slidin' away

God only knows
God makes his plan
The information's unavailable
To the mortal man
We're working our jobs
Collect our pay
Believe we're gliding down the highway
When in fact we're slip slidin' away

Slip slidin' away
Slip slidin' away
You know the nearer your destination
The more you're slip slidin' away

Slip slidin' away
You know the nearer your destination
The more you're slip slidin' away
Mmm...

My dad sung this to me when I was a baby. Life was much simpler back then...

Before I knew English very well, I just thought this song was about a groovey kind of sport... Then when I got a little older I listened to the words and discovered a whole new meaning.

Well, rap is basically a repetitive beat with a lot of bad grammar yelling in my opinion. It's an insult to what black music was for so many years.Paul Simon writes poetry while rappers butcher the English language and have practically no musical skills other than scratching records.

this broad sweeping generalisation is false. There quite a few conscious hip hop artists that represent the true spirit of hip hop. one that's not in the mainstream and made to generate profits

No,the Beatles were original and groundbreaking. That's almost a given.I can't have a serious conversation with you if you disregard the Beatles. You may not like them but you're underestimating them which is in my book unacceptable.Sorry.

Hmm you say the beatles are good and I say they are good at stealing others artists material and passing it as original. The only rap artist i like right now is MnM and thats cause he also hates what has happen to rap and Hip hop.

Freedom of speech allows me to say whatever I feel like about Rap which could never dream to have any emotional or lyrical depths because its creators are illiterate as well as hateful.

Mr.Barrow, don't lecture me about anything. Some music is brilliant and inspirational like Mozart,Bach and the Beatles and some is downright crap like Hip Hop.I have every right to dislike it and every right to say so even if it offends PC liberals who are scared shitless of saying anything bad about current black music because they're afraid to be called racists.Black music used to be great.Rap destroyed it and it's an insult to every thinking man's ears.

Not everyone has experienced the same version of life...music is an expression...a piece of you formed into words, a tempo and 8notes...you can't discount a piece of someone else just because you can't relate. Just listen to what speaks to you, and respectfully disagree, that's a big problem with people in general... Oscar Wilde said "All art is quite useless." Just take the little piece of uselessness that touches a piece of your soul and allow others to do the same without meaningless banter..

GOOD rap is very deep in it's meanings. While good rap is quite rare, the little there is is gold.
