Some impressions from Eike's first trip to Donegal. As far as the music is concerned: the first song is a lullaby we wrote for Eike, lyrics Michaela, music myself.
Lyrics in English:
Sleep Now and Dream
(Schlaf ein und träume)
In Dunfanaghy at night,
when the shadows are getting longer
and the pink clouds are growing pale,
the skewbald mare is fast asleep,
protected by the dunes.
Her flock is there with her,
and the world falls asleep with them.
High on Mount Errigal,
a small white sheep hides behind big rocks,
to shelter from the cold wind.
It gets lost in its dreams,
while the first stars are twinkling.
The whole flock sleeps there, too,
and the world falls asleep with them.
When moonlight plays upon high waves
at Carrickfinn beach,
and the sand shimmers like silver,
the whale sings out there between the islands,
protected by deep waters.
He calls for the others at night,
and the sea rocks them to sleep.
Close to the brook, high on the mountain,
the otter cubs are snuggling up, fast asleep.
The rain cannot get through to them
in their warm den.
Only the water is murmuring softly,
sleeping and dreaming in its own ways.
When the night comes in Glenveigh,
and the mist that rises from the lake
covers everything with silence,
the robin falls asleep
high up in the old oak tree.
The wind that sways the high trees
takes it far away to the country of dreams.
Gríosach, however, is still wide awake,
taking a stroll on soft paws.
She catches a dream in the moonlight
and quietly lays it on your pillow.
An owl comes floating through the trees,
noiseless on soft wings.
Sleep now, sleep and dream.
The second song is also a lullaby we first heard sung by Ian Smith.
The last tune was taught to Michaela by a good friend living in the hills near Crolly.
