Here is a short biography of Oscar Wilde that is found on the BBC TV mini-series disc. I watched it a few years ago. I thought it might be interesting to some viewers.

  • The lifers part is terrible.

  • Anyway Oscar Wilde had asked for it !

In a society where sodomy was practised on the sly, he was cheeky enough to do it openly. That was his mistake !

  • I must admit sometimes I am torn in what to make of the wild situation. On the on hand the extent of societys censure and ouble standards in his case is appalling and Wilde should be known as a martyr in the cause of social justice, not just specifically in the context of a specific homosexual sainted cause. At the same time I do feel for Constance and her children and I think Wilde should have thought of them before throwing caution to the wind and his actions do seem selfish.

  • @soilofk

I agree, we should re-criminalize the corruption of the most hideous kind among young men - sodomy.

  • those people were sooooo ignorant in those times....makes me sick!
