A year ago an artist friend of mine erected a wooden art exhibit in our home town of Dingle, Ireland. The exhibit shocked and delighted the locals and made national news and international press.

It is important to understand while viewing this video that at the present time the Irish government led by Gaeltacht (Irish speaking) Minister Éamon ó Cuív are changing the name of the town back to its original Irish name An Daingean úi Chuis. They are doing this without the consultation of any of the people who live, work or trade in Dingle.

I was in the pub with the artist last week when he mentioned that he had loads of footage about his exhibit that he would like to work into a film. I asked him if I could have a go at it, and this is what I came up with. This is my first time editing anything like this and I apologize in advance if the sound is a bit patchy in places. I hope you like it...

  • I was just in Dingle today, and I had a chance to talk to his father, Gene. He told us all about the "Dingle" controversy. What a brilliant concept! I hope O'Cuiv was angry. :)

  • been to dingle lots of times and never knew it as any other name ,leave well enough alone

  • I only stumbled on this through Bebo today.

Rinne sibh job iontach ar an rub go léir. Ní raibh aon rud cearr leis an bhfuaim. Con as Co Cill Mhantáin

  • Thank you for your invite and congratulations to those in Dingle prepared to make a grand statement. If you go by a village called Coppeen on your way to Cork, have a Guinness at Barrett's pub and say hi from the Aussie rels. I always said I'd visit Ireland again one day ...

  • This was great... paul

  • This was interesting to watch. Your aritist friend is clever.

  • Cool story - gave me an itch to Google and learn even more about the controversy - which was easy to do and was very interesting. The sound is a bit rough in spots but overall think you did a nice job editing and telling the story. My compliments to Darryl on a genius piece of protest art. (Also hope the premier went well!)
