Take a look at the new beach on Oak Island NC after Hurricane Irene. The strong ENE winds from the hurricane brought lots of new sand to our beach, with little property damage to the island.
Unfortunately there were two turtle nests at this access point (W 7th) that were lost to Irene. All in all, though, considering that we had nearly half the season's nests still in the ground as the storm approached, losing a couple hundred turtles was less tragic than it could have been. Still, it's very sad for those who had to excavate them and for the program.
Thanks for posting Oak Island after Irene. We are scheduled to go down in October and didn't know how the beach and properties fared. Looks much better than before. Hate to say it, but "Way to go Irene!"
Fantastic!!... it looks like Irene did in a couple of days what would have taken the army corp of engineers many months to do, and with natural shore sand, not dredged up bottom muck. Thanks much for posting!
Thank you for this! I appreciate seeing that the beach was more than it was and not less! How did the town of Oak Island do? Do you have any video of that? Thanks!
since i never live near the ocean or a typical water form i basically have no hurricanes and never been in one my entire life O_o

Nice Job Gilbert, looks to me like the flounder fishing will be on the upswing.
Now can you put together some pre Irene beach video? lol.
