  • Everytime I listen to this it makes me wish I lived back in the troubadour era, considering the chaos that was going on at their times, they still managed to sing about courtly love. Amazing. Thanks for sharing.

  • @Dangerous120 Chaos? It wasn't much worse than today. In fact, I believe it was even better.

  • because of the comment of ajlabosniazka below i did such a thing like making google account, i want to say i am very grateful and it is like a wonder

  • @ChuckDuke1 I know it's from the Große Heidelberger Liederhandschrift (Codex Manesse).

  • what is that illustration called?

  • @Az1111000 In courtly love, the lover must prove his qualities before obtain the pleasures of love. He (or she) must have a good reputation, must be polite, beautiful, clever, noble, generous, brave and a faithful lover. Courtly love is only an ideal. For more details, you could read the arthurian legend, for exemple: "Perceval, the Story of the Grail" written by Chrétien de Troyes.

  • @shizznizz2008 This version begins with "A chantar m'er de so queu no voira" or something very similar. I have three versions of the lyrics with few differences with the version of the video. I have also a manuscript's copy (a little piece) which begins with something like "A chantar mes al cor". I don't know more.

  • Here is one text from same period in Bosnia (Bosnians were cathars aswell, and they carved beutiful words on their thombstones Stecak, so the lyrics have survived Inqusition burning of paper)

"...in this endless silence I knell presence

    and suggestion of your steps,

    Not God´s.

If that also is His punishment,

then my crazy heart is waiting for it with rejoice."

/Inscription from a bosnian thombstone stecak, 12 century.

  • @Az1111000 I think its something along the line of loving a person, but yet keeping their distance and not rushing in quickly. One could be wrong.
