dB's solo performed at Guitar Center's "Drum-Off" Competition in Cincinnati, Ohio. This was round 2 of preliminaries where the best 6 out of 30 drummers in Cincinnati competed for a chance to advance to District Finals. Also there's footage of a practice session the day before the performance where some of the patterns used in the solo were being worked out and smoothed over...
Shoot I know this boy can play. He was in my band, when he was in Michigan, we had a lot of fun together. And yet to this day I have not heard many drummers that come close to his style or personality, and I have been in the industry for many years.

I would hardly call it a fail for dropping his stick. I know Danny well. We went to school together in Michigan. We were in band together and in fact I still have one of his kits today. This guy is and always has been an excellent drummer. I recall him playing a snare solo in high school titled "Tornado" look around for that solo on the internet. If you want to talk about some true skill this guy has it. As for people who would call it a fail I am interested to see their drum videos.

he totally recovered that drumstick drop though...if your weren't watching this video and only audio...you wouldn't have even knew that he dropped it.... his rhythms are tight as hell and well kept together

Wow, someone who can actually play. All the other videos ive seen of the GC drumoff this year have been so amateur. This guy has some skill. And Im guessing he was listening to Van Halen for inspiration on the intro.
The only thing I could recommend is a little more shift in dynamics, but other wise, very nice.
