The story of this video is that the guy who first gave me the idea to make videos of my songs came out with a "songwriting challenge" (sort of...), in which he proposed his drum-only tracks to be used to create a new, original song. I made a song for that (Synthetic Minotaur), and when I saw how well it was recieved, I decided to make two more, this is the first one of them.

Cobus Potgieter was a drummer I always wanted to play with, and even that I'm after my long journey (1300km) to find a new home, I am still too far to make it happen. Nevertheless he made a chance for all of us to play one-on-one with him, and I kinda miss these situations since I left my hometown, so I jumped on it. (Not a lot of good drummers offer their drums-only tracks you know :D)
Cobus once again represented what I expect from a drummer - precise drumming with that feel in it. I like how much it is predictable when he is going to play something different, you can actually hear it before. High-end communication between musicians, that's what I like. It was a pleasure to play and compose to his cover once again.

The original song was Ludacris (ft. Kevin Figs) - StandUp. I turned the drum parts into Minotaur once again. It was fun. I don't think it has a lot to do with the original :D

The subject of Planet Unrealm is more-less the videogames I was constantly influenced by when I was a teenager. I still grab my good-old CD's time-to-time to play with the oldschool stuff. It was different then, you had to have a lot more imagination to really enjoy the games... so this way I'd like to pay tribute to my favourites, hence the quotes, the title. (Btw, the title (the word Unrealm) has came up in my head about a month ago, when I finished the video of Born Solaris. I woke up at night and the word kicked in, I wrote it down, and totally forgot about it until yesterday, when I made the master track for the song, accidentally I found it in my phone as a memo. So, I suggest to write down everything you came up with at night, either you'll laugh a lot on it, or it will be used for good :D)

Something before any flame-wars: I recorded the song way before the video, which means what you see when I play is not exactly what you hear. I think it's pretty obvious that I consider myself a composer and a fan of music videos rather than a studio musician who actually can improvise the same thing twice (yes, on the bass a lot of the stuff was improvised by watching Cobus playing the drums, later on that was nearly impossible to recreate... or I just didn't give a damn, really). So my video was made for fun, I hope it's clear.

Technical data on Planet Unrealm:
Tuning for guitar is C F Bb Eb Gb C, for bass it's standard BEADG.
On bass I proudly used once again my Prolude bass head (BHV450L), about 60% of Tech21's Sans Amp, Aphex Bass Exciter, Peavey Grind bass with active EMG soapbars, new Rotosound Swing66 strings (and my newly bought tc polytune :D), and planet waves cables. No software sound modifications the Prolude head does the trick.

On guitar: my good old ART ECC unit, some Aphex Bass Exciter colouring, and a cabinet modeling as usual.

On drums I didn't touch nothing.

ProTools for mixing and mastering.

Personal notes to Cobus:
I hope you don't mind I made one other. I know how this may seem, how unfair this could be against the others who post their videos, but I just couldn't resist, especially because it was a lot of fun working with the recordings, throwing ideas, thinking backwards when composing etc. The idea itself (to write a complete song with proper dynamics) is a lot of challenge, so I amused myself once again. Temptation like creating something out of such a base I will not resist.
Therefore the next one I will do will be the hardest, and also the final one. I will make Vox Populi become Minotaur-like. I'm thinking about that song since the first video, but I have to plan it really good to make it explode. After that, I will return to the five-piece Solaris story I finished a couple of days ago, and continue my work on my songs.
Thanks you once again for the support, keep on inspiring the people, I'm happy to had the chance to finally play with you. :)

The Matrix (1999)

The first one who gets all the origin of the quotes right as a comment, will get a clue of the easter-egg I hid in the video.
Or, the first one who finds the easter-egg I hid, will got the quotes. Let's see who wins :D
