Sorry for Taking a while with this video. The thing I must convey is how Tsukuba University never ceases to amaze me with its sheer incompetence; an example of which has been a distinctive lack of internet access for me since I arrived here.

The only difference is that between then and now they apparently fired the Janitor since nothing looks to have been cleaned in a good year at least.

P.S. Today's word is "Hirasuna", which literally means, "Flat sands" The alternate English translation is "the grand slum," a term used by the students here, Japanese and non-Japanese alike. The other popular joke is that the dorms were built as part of a POW camp that never panned out because the people all died before getting there, the lucky saps...

at first i didn't know why Abandoned was at the beginning, and i laughed at the end. time for Ty Pennington to visit your living quarters! =D

I say so, too. As does every person who I've met who has ever had the displeasure of living there, which obviously doesn't include the members of the student housing board. -_-;

I'd love to see what Ty would do with the place, especially the whole tearing-down-and-building-a-ne­wer-better-and-enclosed-one. ^_^

I studied in Tokyo as an exchange student from October 2008 to September 2009 and was always complaning about how the dorm was expensive, but after watching your video I see that I was lucky! o.O

Hello! Thank you very much for posting this video! I've just passed on the MEXT exam and listed Tsukuba University as one of my options. After watching your video I completely changed my mind. I checked the guidebook for international students and saw the price of this dorm! Incredible! How come University of Tsukuba could do this with foreign students?! By the way, as a girl I was quite scared with the idea of leaving my room in the middle of the night just to use the bathroom!!
