This is the start of attempt to build a solenoid driven engine/motor. I acquired a large hydraulic valve solenoid and thought it would interesting to see if I could make an old time looking stationary horizontal engine. This the first step casting the base. I am sort of making up the design as I go along so there are no real plans or drawings.

  • @gwheyduke That's what I'm using now, green sand was too hard to keep conditioned - I'm lazy.

  • Have you tried "Petro Bond" oil sand for casting Aluminum? I use it. Very easy to ram up and makes great castings with very little or no venting!

  • @BuickDoc I did not need a core for the base void because of the angles of the sides allow the cope to lift off the pattern without a problem when I got the sand mixed properly.

  • did you use a core for the void in the base?

  • @mrpete222 Thanks for the compliment! I sure enjoy and have learned a lot by watching your channel Lyle.

  • Nice job!!
