j9240, if you play the banjo, then you might pick up on dobro pretty well. According to IBMA dot org, Josh Graves (dobro player for Flatt and Scruggs and the first Dobro player in bluegrass music) learned the three finger rolls from banjo legend Earl Scruggs, thus the three finger dobro style was born.
