@akimbohr Really? I did not know this! I thought they could deduct up to thousands of a point! That explains the 10.00 then. :)
-
The judges had two options : 9,90 or 10. (there was no 9.95 at that time). So they opted for 10 which was closer to what Daniela did.
In some other times 9.95 would be just. Anyhow, she deserved the gold.

And here I am again :) watching Daniela work her magic. AND this must be the best filming of a beam exercise I have seen. No close ups of feet, or hands or overhead shots - plain and simple from the side so you can see everything. The muppets who film gymnastics competitions today should go back and watch this! Just my opinion :)

What a legend she is! So much talent is such a small frame. She was just beautiful to watch. I go back and watch her every now and then when I want to see some good ARTISTIC gymnastics, not just power tumbling.

@LMA629 the standards by which judges deducted for that kind of thing weren't very clearly defined in the COP back then. It was really up to the discretion of the judge wether or not to deduct for a small balance check, especially if it came after a particularly difficult skill. This was an extraordinarily difficult routine for that time, and performed brilliantly, so i'm sure the judges were rewarding her accordingly.
-
@ralucagymnast also, she had knee surgery in 1990 and it was difficult for her to go back to training
-
Look Shushunova and her coach are applauding Silivas.
-
it was a great routine, but how did she get a 10? she had a couple of tiny balance checks in there
-
It is absolutely true.

I noticed the two adjustments there too, should not have been a ten,,,
Yes, she was too young to retire sadly. She had no choice though, because the Romanian Revolution happened in 1989 and the gym closed down. Thats why she had to give up, because of politics, not through choice. She was one of my favourite gymnasts ever. She was so naturally gifted, a joy to watch.
