About the empty "shell." The 106 has a locking lever showing above/rear of the gun. The empty shell is 106 mm across and about 18 inches long. You have only a few seconds to open the rear and remove the empty before heat from detonation transfers to the outer ring that you grab. You just use your finger tips on one hand to toss it to the ground for cooling. I was in a weapons platoon of the Red Arrow 32 Infantry 63 to69.

@snipereliete the empty shell is ejected manually after being fired. It's an unusual shell in that it's perforated. You'd have to google the ammo and see a photo to really understand. Also, the 106mm wrote the book on backblast. Plus it's really fun to shoot ;-) Oh, also, it's stupid loud!

im building a model of the m40 106mm RR.i was just wondering if someone could tell me wether the amunition is the same as any other round.what i mean is when fired does the empty shell stay in the chamber until it is ejected by opening the rear of the weapon or does the whole shell fire out the front.i ask this stupid question because in all the pictures ive seen i never see any empty casings laying around.any help would be greatly apreciated.THANKYOU.

It's not useless. It can still fire .50 BMG rounds. It will make a hole just the same.

Re My Friend... NO TRACER FROM SPOTTER GUN!
Its just there as an aldernative solution
There is laser distance finder, which corrects the red dot according to distance.
You just use the laser, fix your aim, and FIRE
Where's the M-8 spotter tracer shot?
