When I was a young lad, we always went on holiday to one of these small islands of the coast of the Netherlands (the Wadden area). That is where I often spotted Hen Harriers, gracefully flying across the dunes near the sea. My father pointed them out. They were very common back then, but nowadays they have become very rare. I haven't seen one for years. They have disappeared because of the lack of prey. But close to where I live in summer I can see Montagu Harriers, and they are also a treat.

persecution is a huge problem for harriers i know that from first hand experience esp on grouse moors.

Google 'harrier call' for some good recordings - eg at
hangingrocktower(dot)org/calls/harrier(dot)htm
(replace each (dot) in this by . to get the correct web address).

Do Harriers have any enemies?

Foxes are probably the main animal problem for breeding harriers, but some would say that persecution by a small number of people is the main threat to them.
