This sure does not sound Mother Maybelle...If so How old was she when this recorded?
Must have been one of her first records

@phantomvibrationsX Yes, the song was written in 1860 by Joseph Philbrick Webster, who was from ... New Hampshire! I can't imagine the song being sung without a Southern accent, but that's largely because the Carter Family made it their own. And Maybelle Carter is also absolutely right in this interview that the words have become garbled over time (not that they made too much sense in 1860 either).

Actually wildwood flower was written complete in 1860 and became degraded somwhat while mixing in the mountains. That is why the lyrics at the beginning dont make sense... Ralph Peer would have them record even though they said they werent ready with the lyrics--he simply didnt care.

wow, the original Carter Family recordings are just so mesmerizing - it's where it all came from... Wildwood Flower probably has to be the greatest country song, together with Lovesick Blues and Blue Moon of Kentucky maybe

American Country Music has its roots in the Scottish folk music, and the Carter Family was VERY early in the history of country music, so it doesn't surprise me that you heard a tune similar to Wildwood Flower
