Nurse Katherine O'Brien in New York is interviewed by attorney Deborah Truhowsky regarding how to identify physical problems such as pressure sores in residents of nursing homes. In certain cases, residents are unable to physically move and must be taken care of by facility staff. Ms. O'Brien provides practical and compassionate advice for the family and friends of elder residents.

The interview is part of a series on aging and the elderly produced by the site New York Safety Net, http://www.nysafetynet.com
Ms. Truhowsky is an attorney with the law firm Schwartzapfel Truhowsky Marcus P.C. in New York

  • @baysideful Absolutely. The person who has power of attorney is allowed to stay in the room while the patient is being cleaned and changed. Repositioning is essential every two hours. It especially must be done at night when the night staff is very understaffed. Take pictures of any marks that you see on your loved one's skin. That may be the start of a bed sore.

  • The staff lies!!!

they cover it up...U HAVE TO TAKE THE SHEET DOWN AND LOOK EVEREWHERE....ESPECIALLY THE BUTTOX

AND HIPS ....U HAVE TO ASK TO SEE THE CHART...U HAVE TO GO IN GROUPS AND STAY WITH THEM ON SHIFTS...THEY DON'T TURN THEM EVERY 2 HOURS!!!
