1963 Hillman Imp that my father has built in his shed over the last 2 1/2 years. A Yamaha FJ1200 engine has been fitted in the left rear of the cabin driving onto a short tailshaft to a modified Skyline Diff. The footage is of the first race entered on completion which is at the MG Car Club Newcastles' Ringwood Hillclimb track. It set a fastet time of 34.11 seconds which is a faster time than our R32 Skyline GTS-t has set at this track to date.

  • i def wann know how that was bolted inn!

  • @daz69imp , engine is longitudinally mounted where the back of the passenger seat would normally be, with gearbox sprocket at back. Chain drive onto a short fixed shaft, then to a short tailshaft onto a modified skyline LSD. The fixed shaft has another short chain drive to a starter motor for electric reverse. 2 thermo fans fitted, one in front of the motor under aluminium ducting drawing from under the bonnet & thru oil cooler to engine, other on passenger side drawing thru custom scoop.Cheers

  • I ride a FJ1200 and I've never encountered a car that has been able to keep up with me, and I also wondered about making a mini-sports car with an FJ engine - thanks for the wonderful example! I wanna see more rides in your FJ1200 car!

  • blue smoke? yep thats a yamaha engine allright!!!

  • wow she can go

  • Absolutely fabulous - thanks for posting that. I loveed my Imps years ago but this is simply great

  • I love it!

I like how you mounted the factory FJ1200 gauge cluster to your dash!

    Great little car!

  • Very Cool running, M8!

Get yourself onto the IMP CLUB-UK (we all want to see the Layout/Running gear - if you don't mind sharing, of course)

You may have seen the MidMount jobs running in UK..?

We have an AYGO (3cyl 998cc) on the go - in place of the Std engine(no cutting of shell)

    Come on over ;<)

  • great clip...sounds pretty crazy..good crazy look forward to seeing more this year
