Cash for Clunkers: A Bad Deal, America!

The Cash for Clunkers (CARS) program is probably the ickiest sign of American consumer waste we've seen yet. I think we forget just how much poorer the rest of the world is and how wasteful this must look to them.

It's tragic these cars couldn't be sold to the poor, given to developing countries like Mexico, or donated to local charities.

Cash for Clunkers is an insane stupid program. There are many poor people and students who would LOVE those so-called "clunkers".

american autos are crap when they are new,poor quality,poor design,old technology,production geared toward profit only,not longivity,overpaid management/workers with no foresight to automotive trends. they still cannot build a car as good as a 20 yr old corrola.

1 thing i do not like about the program was that you could buy a new foreign vehicle. Whose does that help when you buy foreign? The number one selling car from this was the totyota corola, who does this help? The japenese.

There should of been a rule saying only cars that are American made, & the head of the company is in the states can qualify, would of helped the economy.

there should of also been a rule that states that the car has to be in poor condition, look at how many nice cars are gone

the reason they kill engine not only to prevent resale but it prevent people from stealing them. I've watch cops during the program and people been arested for stealing tires of the dead clunkers even though it was cashed for clunker, and I would say to the Police, "OOHOOO!!these cars are dead and there going to Destroy them so I thought that I would take parts!!! "

The fault lays with the automotive industry: A bunch of idiots going: "If it ain't broken, don't fix it." In Europe we've always had to think gas mileage as our politicians needs to tax everything in absurdum. The typical car in today's Europe in a small car with a TDI engine in it. New legislation has given environmentally responsible vehicles tax benefits. Many of us have been shaking our heads over this hysteria with more and more cylinders, more and more badass. Any lessons learned?

Here the cars were destroyed! And people bought foreign cars and it severely harmed the American economy because most of the cars that were smashed were American cars! This program truely put the economy in dire shit! We gave money that we didn't really have to people who traded in these vehicles!

a lot of the cars that were destroyed my dad could've used.....but thanks to this Shit for Clunkers program, my dad couldn't even get to work because everyone who was selling their cars to other people, had them smashed.
